Gary Luna Tribute

On June 10th, I have sadly lost a very good friend and brother in Christ.

My neighbor and good friend was always there when someone needed him. For an appliance repair, an AC problem or just some help with something that required more than one man. I recall that somewhere in March 2005 I was on a business trip some 7 time zones away. I received a panicked call from my wife saying that our hot water heater was flooding the gameroom floor. Well, long story short, before I even got back from this trip, our water heater was replaced, a new drain pan and drain hose ensuring we would never have a flooded floor ever again.

Such was Gary. The man I got to know in late 1999. When I shared that in Belgium we don’t hunt for deer, he took me out and taught me. He took me out to the Texas country side he loved so much. We enjoyed barbeque and the occasional beer. I remember driving down to De Leon listening to “Roll with the Changes” by REO Speedwagon. He loved the Rolling Stones. He loved his neighbors, his family, his friends. He was funny.

Sure he had flaws. We all do. But I know we will one day meet again. As redeemed men. Without our flaws, our anger, our jealousy, our greed, our selfishness. Gary always had a heart of gold and I look forward to the day I can share another beer with him. That is the hope we have thanks to the sacrifice of our living Savior Jesus Christ. So, Gary…save me one will ya ! Don’t get all those ten pointers before I get there. Love ya. Mean it !

I pray that Mama Luna and Cameron may find comfort in the knowledge Gary is truly in a better place.
